Young Masters Program

To Foster Excellence in Performance

These days, a young person's attention is pulled in many directions. For many students, that can work well, giving them a “well-rounded” experience. But, for the student who knows that music is “their thing,” the many daily distractions are actually keeping them from fulfilling their musical dreams.

For the music student who would truly like to excel, the Young Masters Program is designed to give them the inspiration, motivation, focus and tools needed to develop their musicianship to its full potential. This program is definitely not for everybody, but only for the very few who are willing to make the necessary commitment to their craft ant artistry in order to attain a certain level of excellence in performance.

Young Masters students enroll in one-hour lessons, once a week. The longer lesson allows for the student to learn more than just the basic fundamentals. These students go deeper into music theory, sight reading, technical skills, performance skills, improvisation, accompaniment, composition and more. But, one of the most important skills they learn is self-discipline and time management of their practice schedule. Young Masters students commit to practice a minimum of 5 hours per week, and keep a daily practice log. Through all of this, the students learn and appreciate the value of their diligence and hard work when they see and hear the results of their efforts.

Young Masters students see and hear tangible results of their efforts because they are given the opportunity to perform live on video. YM students are expected to be ready to perform at least one new and challenging piece every four months, which will be recorded live to video. I have learned from producing my own performance videos that learning a piece for video involves heightened focus, concentration and preparation. The videos are produced in my studio, at no extra charge for YM students. (Recording and editing can take 1-2 hours.) The video is recorded using proper studio microphone techniques, so that the student has a quality document that they will be proud to share.

The Young Masters Program is open to all ages, but beginner students are not eligible. Access to the program is dependent upon availability in my schedule. New YM students commit to an initial 4 month trial period. After the trial period, students that fill the requirements will be asked to commit to the remainder of the school year.
