Bass Guitar Lessons
Peter Hostage offers bass lessons for children and adults. Younger children can start learning bass guitar usually at around age eight or nine. For adults: it's never too late to start playing bass guitar! The world needs more bass players!
Children should have a "student" size bass guitar, because the scale of a bass is much longer than a guitar, and notes can be hard to reach. A small child with a full-size bass can easily become discouraged! Older kids and adults should have a full-sized bass guitar. Bass students should have a small practice amplifier at home. I have a bass amplifier for students to use during the lesson.
Bass lessons start with a general approach to music, giving the student the tools to play any kind of music. Students will learn the notes on the fretboard, the notes on the bass clef, how to read rhythms and play over chord changes.
Bass students will be introduced to many styles of music including rock, jazz, blues, funk, swing, Latin and more.
Beginners will learn:
- To play with proper finger technique
- The notes in the first position
- To read notes on the bass clef musical staff
- To count rhythms correctly
- To play some fun music!
Later, intermediate and advanced students will learn scales, arpeggios, walking jazz bass, slap-funk bass, the notes on the entire fretboard and techniques to build the foundation to play any style of music!
