Drum Lessons
Peter Hostage offers drum lessons for children and adults. Children can start learning drums usually at around age eight, but very motivated 6 and 7 year-old students have done well. For adults: it’s never too late to begin playing drums!
Students can start to learn to play drums by using only a snare drum or practice pad, but will want to move on to a full drum set as soon as possible to get the most out of lessons. Beginning drum technique can be learned on a snare drum, and transferred to the full drum set later; there is no difference in the technique used. The full drum set allows the student to fully use arms and legs to develop four way independence.
Beginners will learn:
- To play with proper technique
- To read and count rhythms correctly on the percussion staff
- Proper stick control
- To begin developing four way independence in playing
- To play some fun music!
Later, intermediate students will learn to expand the variety of rhythms and techniques they can play through a curriculum designed to meet the student's individual needs and maximize their talents. Advanced students will learn to play drums in a variety of genres and styles, including rock, jazz, blues, funk, R&B, and more.
Peter Hostage teaches drum lessons in Londonderry, New Hampshire, and has students from Londonderry and the surrounding towns of Windham, Litchfield, Derry, Manchester, Chester, Auburn, Hudson, Nashua and Pelham.
