Guitar Lessons
Peter Hostage offers guitar lessons for children and adults. Children can start learning guitar usually at around age eight, but very motivated 6 and 7 year-old students have done well. For adults: it’s never too late to begin playing guitar!
Younger children should have a “student” size guitar, because the narrower width of the neck and the smaller frets will allow the child to reach all of the notes and chords. A small child with a full-size guitar can easily become discouraged!
Students can begin lessons playing on either an electric or an acoustic guitar. The beginning lessons are the same for either instrument. As the student progresses, the lessons can become more specific towards an electric or acoustic instrument.
Beginners will learn:
- To play with proper finger technique
- Basic open chords
- The notes in the first position
- Reading notes on the musical staff
- Counting rhythms
Later, intermediate students will learn scales, alternate picking techniques, barre chords, finger style guitar, the notes on the entire fretboard and techniques to build the foundation to play any style of music!
Advanced students will learn to play rock guitar, blues guitar, jazz guitar, classical guitar and folk guitar. Advanced students will also learn about song forms, moveable scale and arpeggio patterns, string bends, slides, hammer-ons and pull-offs, chord-melody techniques and much more.
Peter Hostage teaches guitar lessons in Londonderry, New Hampshire, and has students from Londonderry and the surrounding towns of Windham, Litchfield, Derry, Manchester, Chester, Auburn, Hudson, Nashua and Pelham.
