Voice Lessons
Peter Hostage offers voice lessons for children and adults. Children can start singing lessons usually at around age nine, and younger students are encouraged to take a combination of piano and singing lessons. Young singers' vocal chords are still developing, so a less structured approach is recommended. For adults: it's never too late to learn to sing!
In voice lessons, students learn how to sing with proper technique. Lessons cover all elements of singing including proper posture, breath control, diction (both vowels and consonants), phrasing and much more.
As voice students advance, they will learn how to sing major and minor scales and intervals. Learning scales and intervals helps the vocal student to identify and control pitch more effectively.
Each student learns their own unique repertoire, suited to their voice and musical direction. Lessons include learning some of the great standards from the American songbook, as well as pieces of their own choosing. Students can choose songs from almost any genre including rock, jazz, country, classical and more.
Beginners will learn:
- To sing with proper breath technique
- To sing with proper posture
- To sing with proper diction
- To sing with effective phrasing
- To sing on pitch
- To sing some fun songs!
Voice students are encouraged to sing in their church or school choir, community singing organizations, or musical theater groups.
